It’s a Gothenburg Thing!

Gothenburg has a long history of developing and welcoming underground music by creating spaces and grassroots venues for different audiences and musical genres. Communities have made temporary spaces, re-used buildings, occupied basement spaces and other in-between venues. From Draupner to Lucky People Center, Funkhouse to Locus Sound System, join us for a day-long programme of events exploring Gothenburg’s historic underground venues, club nights and sound systems. The programme will begin with an aural history walk through some of Gothenburg’s seminal music venues and club nights since the 90’s. The walk will be an opportunity to listen to key figures of the scene and hear music played at the time. After the walk, there will be a chance to share further club stories at an informal gathering with drinks and snacks at Göteborgs Litteraturhus. The programme will end with a live performance by Dungeon Acid and DJ sets from some of the original pioneers.

Programme: September 19th, 2026

13.00 – 16.00hrs Aural History Walk
The programme will begin with an aural history walk through a number of Gothenburg’s seminal music venues and club nights since the 90’s. The walk starts at HDK, Kristinelundsgatan 6-8 and ends at Göteborgs Litteraturhus. A specific program of speakers and stops will be made available in the coming days

16.30 – 18.00hrs Afterwalk
An opportunity to further share club stories at an informal gathering with drinks, snacks and music. This  will be a curated ”Open mic”- session. Participants will have the opportunity to share stories and music. Time is, of course limited, but we will try to make space for everyone who wants to speak. If someone would like to sell books, records or merch it is of course possible to do so. Please contact Olav via email in advance if you want to leave books or other things beforehand.

20.00 – late It’s a Gothenburg Thing!
Live performances by Dungeon Acid and DJ sets by Gavana & Aimnbreak, DJ Struck and others at Bubblan, Fiskhamnsgatan 41b.

The programme has been convened by Anna Gavanas, Olav Fumarola Unsgaard and Onkar Kular. This event was originally created for the visit of the writer Caspar Melville. It was cancelled due to an accident. Sadly enough he passed away a couple of months later. Doing this event a couple of years later is for us a way to remember and honor Caspar Melville. Of course is ”It’s a Gothenburg Thing” a blink to Caspars book It’s a London Thing.
